During my time in Vietnam, I founded a free language exchange club bringing together locals & foreigners in the aim of mutual learning.

How can I make friends in a new place when I dont know anyone?
I arrived to Vietnam as a tourist and I had an unforgettable time. In fact I had such a good time I decided to stick around a bit longer and prolong my travels. I settled down in sunny seaside Nha Trang city.
Nha Trang is a beautiful city and has amazing mountain backdrops paired with breathtaking ocean views. One thing they have above all else is coffee. Vietnamese coffee is already outstanding in general but the coffee in Nha Trang is second to none. I spent a lot of time in a lot of different coffee shops trying out various beans in various combinations of preparation. Egg Coffee, Salt Coffee, Coconut Frappe, Phin Coffee, Bac Xiu, Orange coldbrews, the list goes on.
I frequented one coffee shop more than most, Leo Arabica. It had good beans, good vibes, nice AC, fast internet and most of all they would let you use these nice laptop stands that make typing slightly easier. It was a comfy place to sit for hours and build features for sure.
One day whilst doing some work in the cafe, a local regular came up to me after hearing me speak with some friends and asked if I was a native english speaker. I replied yes, ofcourse. She then explained she had an English club which was meeting shortly and if I had time to be interviewed for their benefit. I replied, yes ofcourse, I generally love side-missions.
After the interview and the session Linh, the club organiser asked me if I wanted to join their english club and I instead suggested we set up a Vietnamese language club to bring together locals foreigners and travellers who stick around for a bit longer than most. And so the club was formed under the blessing of coffee beans.
I advertised the club on local facebook groups, social media, flyers. We had and continue to have solid turnout week in and week out.
This club is one of my proudest projects as bringing even a few people together in real life and going through the journey of learning another language has enriched my spirit.
